MIGRATION SERVICES

Jenkins Migration and Relocation Services

Jenkins migration is the service of controlled transfer of data such as controller configurations, jobs, pipelines, plugins, authorization keys (credentials), build history, and agent connections to a new environment without data loss.

OVERVIEW

What is Jenkins Migration and Relocation Services?

Simply copying the JENKINS_HOME directory is not sufficient for a smooth migration. Before migration, a complete inventory of the current Java and Jenkins versions, plugin dependencies, encrypted secret keys, external tools, and agent (worker) working directories is extracted. To prevent unexpected errors, test startups and sample builds are performed on the target system to conduct a live migration trial.

SERVICE SCOPE

Service scope

01

Inventory and Analysis

Jenkins Core, Java version, plugin list, defined jobs, credentials, node (agent) structures, and external integrations are recorded.

02

Compatibility Assessment

The path to version upgrades and potential plugin compatibility risks are isolated and evaluated in a test environment.

03

Controlled Migration Process

The JENKINS_HOME directory, secret keys, and external tools required for the process are transferred to the target environment under control.

04

Validation and Functional Testing

System access (login), credential resolution, webhooks, agent connections, and representative pipelines are tested.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Who is it for?

  • Development teams changing the Jenkins server, infrastructure, or operating system.
  • Institutions wishing to safely upgrade to newer versions from an old Jenkins version.
  • Projects looking to redesign or migrate the current CI/CD architecture to the cloud.
DELIVERABLES

Deliverables

  • Detailed Jenkins Migration and Rollback Plan
  • Version Compatibility and Plugin Risk Evaluation List
  • Configured and Operational Controller and Agents
  • Sample Build Validation and Acceptance Report

How we work

01

Assess the current environment, target and dependencies

02

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Can the build history from the old Jenkins be transferred during the migration?

Depending on the scope of the migration and the chosen transfer method, old build history can be transferred. However, for very large data volumes, planning for the transfer duration and disk costs should also be considered.

Are passwords, tokens, and authorizations (credentials) lost during the migration process?

If the secret keys within Jenkins' own structure (master.key, etc.) are transferred securely to the target environment, the credential data is protected. It is essential to ensure these access controls in the pre-migration test environment.

Are the existing plugins (extensions) updated directly during the migration?

Required plugin updates are performed in a controlled and planned sequence. Simultaneously updating the server and all plugins to the latest version increases the rollback risk, so a phased approach is preferred.
